Overview

If you subscribe to the Upgrade Program at the same time you purchase an eligible model with an installment contract (24 months), when you change the model to a new model after using for 12 months, this support program will practically exempt★1 ★2 you from paying some of the remaining amount of the installment payments (up to 7 months) for the device you have used.

If you use your device with a subscription to the program for 13 months or longer before you change your device to a new model without taking advantage of the program benefits, the equivalent amount to all program charges you have paid (up to 48 months) is refunded and charged (deposited) to your au WALLET Prepaid Card ★3!
  1. After changing models, the remaining installment payments continue to be billed. However, through this program, part of the remaining installment payments (the 18th to the 24th payment) are offset by factors such as the trade-in value of the previous model, making the amount you pay essentially zero.
  1. If you change your model between the 13th month and 18th month, you are required to pay an advance use fee of ¥2,000 (non-taxed).

    If you subscribed to the program at the same time you purchased an iPhone SE on or before May 31, 2016, no advance use fee is charged.

  1. ◎ If you change models in or after the 13th month without applying the benefits, the full amount that you have paid will be credited (deposited).

(2) Subscribe to any of the plans shown below:

  • If you subscribe to New au Adjust Plan/Adjust Plan(s)/au Flat Plan 7 Plus/au Data Max Plan/au Data Max Plan Netflix Pack/au Flat Plan 20/au Flat Plan 25 Netflix Pack with the purchase of an iPhone, you cannot subscribe to the Upgrade Program. Use Upgrade Program EX or Upgrade Program EX (a).

  • The names of rate plans and data flat-rate services for au VoLTE 4G LTE smartphones (excluding iPhones released before 2016) have "(V)" on the end.

Conditions of use for the program benefits

If both of the following conditions of (1) and (2) are met:

(1) Any eligible model is used for 12 months or longer before switching models (purchase)

(2) When you switch models, you relinquish the previous model ★5 ★6

<About Device Returns>

Customers who are not able to return the device when using the Upgrade Program benefit can either bring the device to an au store or return it by mail. The deadline for return is the end of the following month from the application date of the model change (Inspection must be completed by KDDI).

  • This simulation is based on the retail prices at the au Online Shop (with the benefit of 2-year contract applied). Actual model prices may vary depending on the store.
  • This simulation uses then current prices officially announced as of September 13, 2019.

[About the installment payment]

  • If you change models or cancel your contract, the monthly payments for the amount remaining will continue.(Payment can be made in a lump-sum payment.)
  • A ¥3,300 contract fee is required when making a new contract or changing models (¥2,200 if changing from some models).
Notes

* This program is available to subscribe only when purchasing an eligible model. If you cancel the subscription, you are not allowed to subscribe to the program until your next purchase of an eligible model.

  1. ：No program charges are incurred in and after the 49th month.
  2. ：If you are unable to return your previous model, the program benefits will not be applied. Only the amount corresponding to the payments you made through the program will be refunded and credited (deposited).
  3. ：Your relinquishment of the previous model will not be accepted in the event that the returned model falls into one or more of the following conditions:
  1. The power does not turn on,
  2. The device cannot be charged,
  3. The body or screen of the phone is damaged or cracked,
  4. The passcode lock is not canceled and the phone has not been completely reset,
  5. There is a response to water leakage stickers placed in manufacturer-designated locations,
  6. The serial number cannot be confirmed, the device has been modified, or other circumstances that void the manufacturer warranty.
  • Backup of data and initialization of the device being returned is the responsibility of the customer. After the device is returned, all data is deleted and cannot be recovered.
  • When returning, remove all memory cards, straps, and other accessories. After returning, all accessories will be disposed of.
  • Neither the benefits of this program nor the refund and charge (deposit) of all program charges you have paid will be applicable in case of canceling the Upgrade Program; changing models prior to entitling the program benefits: switching to an ineligible data (packet) flat rate service, or transfer, suspension or cancellation of the line.
  • If you pay off the entire remaining amount for your model in lump sum, this program's benefits do not apply while the refund and charge (deposit) of all program charges you have paid remains applicable.
  • This program's benefits cannot be used along with Trade-in Program.
  • The refund for all program charges you have paid is charged to the au WALLET Prepaid Card whose contracted line is set to an au ID.
  • If you do not complete the procedure to start use of an au WALLET Prepaid Card or you cancel your au WALLET Prepaid Card, the refund/deposit of all program charges you have paid does not apply.
  • Consumption tax is not incurred for program charges. The program charge may differ depending on the time and model.
  • If you are currently subscribed to the Upgrade Program, please refer to the following information:

  • 4G LTE (with au VoLTE support) plans are also eligible for the listed data flat rate services.
