Upgrade Program EX/EX (a)

Overview

If you subscribe to the Upgrade Program EX at the same time you purchase a smartphone with an installment contract (48 months[1]), when you change the model to a new model after using for 24 months, the remaining amount of the installment payments (up to 24 months) for the smartphone you have used is waived.(★3)

(2) au Adjust Plan or au Flat Plan is subscribed

  • The names of rate plans and data flat-rate services for au VoLTE 4G LTE smartphones (excluding iPhones released before 2016) have "(V)" on the end.

Conditions of use for the program benefits

If both of the following conditions of (1) and (2) are met:

Change models (purchase) after using an eligible model for 12 months(★4)

<Upgrade Program EX (a)>

Change models (purchase) after using an eligible model for 6 months

(2) When you change models, you relinquish the previous model(★5)

Program benefits

Payment not necessary for the amount equivalent to the installment amount from the month after changing models
(For Upgrade Program EX: Up to 24 months(★2)/For Upgrade Program EX(a): Up to 12 months(★2))(★3)

[Point Refund Guarantee]

If you change models without taking advantage of the program benefits, WALLET points (au points for corporate contracts) equivalent to all program charges you have paid will be credited in the next month following the month you change models.(★6)
(This benefit is eligible when the benefit conditions (1) above is satisfied)

  1. If you purchased an eligible iPhone purchase with an installment contract (24 months), you can also select Upgrade Program EX (a).
  2. ◎Program fees are not incurred from the 25th month.
    ◎The ¥390 (non-taxable) program charge for Upgrade Program EX (a) is discounted. There is no deadline to apply. You will receive notifications regarding any changes in advance.

  2. When switching models or relinquishing the previous model during the 25th month after subscribing (Upgrade Program EX(a) is the 13th month). The amount that does not need to be paid differs depending on the month when the phone model is switched.
  3. If the remaining installment payment amount is less than the previously paid program charges when the benefits are applied, the difference between the program charges and the remaining installment payment amount is returned to the WALLET points (au points for a corporate contract) in the month following the model upgrade.
  1. If you use this benefit between the 13th and 24th months after purchasing an eligible model, you are required to pay an advance use fee (¥390 (non-taxed) x number of remaining months until the 25th month), after which installment payments are waived.
  1. ◎ In case that you fail to return your old model at the time of changing models using the program benefit, please bring your old model in a store carrying au products or return it by mail. Your old model must be returned and inspected on our site by the end of the month following the month you apply for changing models. If you fail to return your old model in a timely manner to complete the inspection, you will be disqualified for the benefit.

    ◎If the device that you return exhibits any of the following failures (examples), you are required to pay a faulty device use fee of ¥20,000 (non-taxed) when using the program benefit. (For subscribers to Repair and Delivery Support for Android™, this fee is ¥2,000 (non-taxed), and for subscribers to AppleCare+ & au Handset Support for iOS, or to Repair and Delivery Support with AppleCare Services, the fee is ¥3,672 (non-taxed) for a cracked screen or ¥12,744 (non-taxed) for issues other than a cracked screen (from September 14, 2018)). Inspection methods and items may vary depending on the model that is inspected.

    ◎If the device that you return exhibits any of the following failures (examples), you are required to pay a faulty device use fee when using the program benefit.

[About the installment payment]

  • A ¥3,000 contract fee is required when making a new contract or changing models (¥2,000 if changing from some models).
Notes
  • This program is available to subscribe only when purchasing any of eligible models. Once you discontinue the program, you are not allowed to re-enroll in the program until you purchase a new eligible model.
  • If the remaining installment amount is paid in one lump payment, this program benefit does not apply.
  • Neither the benefits of this program nor Point Refund Guarantee will be applicable in case of discontinuing this program; switching to any of ineligible rate plans or flat-rate data services, or transfer, suspension or cancellation of the line.
  • Backup of data and initialization of the device being returned is the responsibility of the customer. After the device is returned, all data is deleted and cannot be recovered.
  • When returning, remove all memory cards, straps, and other accessories. After returning, all accessories will be disposed of.
  • This program's benefits cannot be used along with Trade-in Program.
  • The program is subject to change depending on the time and model.
