【au Email Portability】Can I continue to use my au Email Portability email address after re-contracting with au?

If you re-contract with au using the same phone number you had before applying for au Email Portability (when you were previously using au), you can continue to use your au email address.

Please cancel your au Email Portability service, re-subscribe to au, and then acquire your current au Email address again.

Important notes

  • After canceling the au Email Portability, please re-acquire the same au Email address within 540 days.

For your reference

  • If you want to use two au Email addresses, you can acquire a new au Email address after renewing your au contract and continue using your au Email Portability address for 330 yen per month (including tax).

STEP 0: Check the usage conditions

【au Email Portability】I would like to check the usage conditions for re-acquiring an email address

There are some conditions, such as re-contracting with au using the same phone number you had before applying for au Email Portability (when you previously used au).

Usage Conditions

  • You must re-contract with au using the same phone number you had before applying for au Email Portability (when you previously used au).
  • Before you re-acquire your au Email address, please cancel your au Email Portability service.
    • After canceling your au Email Portability service, the emails sent and received using au Email Portability will be deleted from the server and will no longer be viewable.
    • In the case of an iPhone, any iPhone note linked with the email address (au Email address) will be deleted.
  • After canceling the au Email Portability, please re-acquire the same au Email address within 540 days.

STEP 1: Back up your emails

【au Email Portability】I would like to back up sent and received emails (Android)

Emails sent and received using au Email Portability will be deleted from the server after you re-acquire your au Email address.

Please back up any important emails beforehand using the au Email app.

Please refer to the "Steps" on this page for backup instructions.

Important notes

  • For the four following models, Galaxy S8+ SCV35, Galaxy S8 SCV36, AQUOS R SHV39, and HTC U11 HTV33, the email data from the au Email app cannot be restored to the Email app. Please forward the important emails to Gmail or similar services.

Steps

    Launch the "au Email App" [auメールアプリ].

    Tap on the folder containing the emails you wish to save.

    • This section will guide you through the notification screen that appears when you select "Receive" [受信].

    Tap on "Select" [選択].

    Tap the checkbox next to the email you want to save.

    If you want to save all emails at once, tap on "Select All" [全選択].

    Tap on "Save" [保存].

  • 6

    The email has been copied to the saved folder.

    Next, tap on the "Menu Icon" [メニューアイコン].

    Tap on "App Settings" [アプリ設定].

    • Depending on the app version, the "Email Settings" [Eメール設定] option may be displayed, so please tap on that.

    Tap on "Backup & Restore" [バックアップ・復元].

  • 10

    Select either an SD card or Google Drive, then tap on "Start backup" [バックアップを開始する].

STEP 2: Cancel au Email Portability

You can cancel it at the au Email Portability service’s My Page.

Steps

    Access the following page on the device where you are using au Email Portability.

  • 2

    Enter the au ID for which you have subscribed to the au Email Portability service, and then tap on"Next" [次へ].

  • 3

    Enter your password and tap on "Log In" [ログイン].

  • 4

     Tap on "Cancellation of service" [サービスの解約].

  • 5

    Tap on "Proceed to the Confirmation Screen" [確認画面に進む].

    • If the au Email address you wish to cancel is registered as the "Contact Email Address 2" for your au ID, you will not be able to proceed with the cancellation process.

    Tap on "Proceed to Email Deletion Screen" [メールアドレス削除画面へ進む], and after deleting the "Contact Email Address 2" [連絡先メールアドレス2] information on the au ID Membership Information Site, please proceed with the procedure again.

    Check the notes and tap on "Agree to the notes and cancel" [注意事項に同意して解約する].

  • 7

    Once you see "Cancellation Complete" [解約完了], the procedure is finished.

For your reference

  • If you have registered your au ID contact email address, after the cancellation is completed, an email titled"【au Email Portability】Cancellation Completion Notice" 【auメール持ち運び】解約完了のお知らせ] will be sent.

STEP 3: Re-contracting your au contract and initial email setup

【au Email Portability】I would like to set up my email after re-contracting my au contract (Android)

After re-contracting your au contract, please complete the initial setup using the email initial setup page or the au Email app.

Important notes

  • If you wish to continue using your current au Email address, please re-contract with au using the same phone number you used previously with au. You can re-contract au service at your nearest au store or through the au online shop.

STEP 4: Restore Emails

【au Email Portability】I would like to restore emails sent and received using au Email Portability (only for customers who backed up using the au Email app on an Android device)

If you backed up your data using the au Email app on your Android device, you can restore it using the au Email app.

All other customers, please proceed to Step 5.

STEP 5: Re-acquiring the au Email address used with au Email Portability

【au Email Portability】I want to re-acquire the au Email address I was using with au Email Portability (Android)

You can re-acquire the au Email address you used with au Email Portability on the email address change screen.

For details, please refer to the information below.

How to enter the au Email address to be re-acquired

On the au Email address change screen, please enter your address as follows:

  • If the au Email address you wish to re-acquired is "○○○○@ezweb.ne.jp": Please enter "○○○○@ezweb.ne.jp" in the input field.
    • Be sure to include the entire au Email address, including the "@ezweb.ne.jp" domain. If the domain is missing, an error will occur.
  • If the au Email address to be re-acquired is "○○○○@au.com": Enter "○○○○" in the input field.
    • Enter only the part to the left of the @ mark, without including the "@au.com" domain.

If the "Change Address/Spam Settings" [アドレス変更/迷惑メール設定] button is not in the side menu of the au Email app

In this case, you will need to delete the data within the au Email app.

Since past email data within the app will be deleted, if you need to back up your emails, please perform the operation in the "STEP 1: Backup or Forward Emails" [STEP1:メールのバックアップまたは転送] procedure in advance.

The method to delete data within the app is as follows:

Open the "Settings app" [設定アプリ] → "Apps" [アプリ] → "au Email" [auメール] → "Storage" [ストレージ] → "Clear data" [データを消去] → Return to the home screen and tap on the "au Email app" [auメールアプリ].

From here on, please follow the on-screen instructions to complete the initial setup.

  • All of the indicated amounts exclude tax unless otherwise specified.
