Overview

【au Email Portability】Can I continue to use my au Email Portability email address after re-contracting with au?

If you use the same au phone number as before applying for au Email Portability, you can continue to use your au email address.

After canceling the au Email Portability service, please do the operation to re-obtain the email address.

For detailed steps, please refer to the information from "STEP 0" to "STEP 4" below.

Important notes

  • The email data cannot be transferred.
  • After canceling au Email Portability service, you will need to obtain a new email address within 540 days.

For your reference

  • You can also continue to use au Email Portability for a monthly fee of 330 yen (including tax).

STEP 0: Check the usage conditions

I would like to check the usage conditions for reobtaining an email address

Please see below for the details of the usage conditions.

Usage Conditions

  • If you use the same au phone number as before applying for au Email Portability
  • Before reobtaining, please cancel the au Email Portability service
    • Upon cancellation, the emails sent and received via au Email Portability will be deleted from the email server, and you will no longer be able to view them.
    • In the case of an iPhone, any iPhone note linked with the email address will be deleted.
  • After canceling au Email Portability service, you will need to obtain a new email address within 540 days.

STEP 1: Back up or transfer emails

I would like to back up or transfer emails sent and received through au Email Portability

Emails sent or received using the au Email Portability will be deleted from the email server after the email address is re-obtained.

Please back up or transfer important emails in advance.

For customers using the Android au Email app

By copying the email data to the "Save folder" [保存] in advance →  backing up → canceling au Email Portability service → then restoring the email data, you can still view the email data after re-obtaining the email address.

Please refer to the "Steps" on this page for backup instructions.

  • For the four following models, Galaxy S8+ SCV35, Galaxy S8 SCV36, AQUOS R SHV39, and HTC U11 HTV33, the email data from the au Email app cannot be restored to the Email app. Please forward the important emails to Gmail or similar services.

For customers who use other devices (including iPhone/iPad users, etc.) than those listed above

Forward the email to another email address.

Steps

    This is the procedure for backing up emails using the Android au Mail app.

    In the au Email app, open the folder (such as Inbox) that you want to save and tap on "Select" [選択] in the upper-right corner of the screen.

    Tap on the checkbox of the left of the email you want to save. (If you want to save all at once, tap on "Select All" [全選択] )

    After selecting, tap on "Save" [保存].

     Copied the email to the "Save folder" [保存フォルダ].

    Tap on the menu button at the top left of the screen.

    Tap on "App Settings" [アプリ設定].

    Tap on "Backup and Restore" [バックアップ・復元] to back up your email data to your SD card or Google Drive.

STEP 2: Cancel au Email Portability

You can cancel it at the au Email Portability service’s My Page.

Steps

    From the smartphone currently using the service, access the au Email Portability page.

  • 2

    Scroll up from the bottom of the screen.

  • 3

    Tap on "Settings after Application" [お申込み後の設定はこちら].

  • 4

    Enter the au ID of the email address you wish to cancel and tap on "Next" [次へ].

  • 5

    Enter your password and tap on "Log In" [ログイン].

  • 6

    Tap on "Cancellation of service" [サービスの解約] on my page.

  • 7

    Tap on "Proceed to the Confirmation Screen" [確認画面に進む].

    • If the au Email Portability email address matches the second Contact Information email address registered in the au ID Membership Information page, tap on "Proceed to Email Address Deletion Screen" [メールアドレス削除画面へ進む] , and then delete the information of the second Contact Information email address from the au ID Member Information site before completing the cancellation process.

    Check the notes and tap on "Agree to the notes and cancel" [注意事項に同意して解約する].

  • 9

    If it says "Cancellation Completed" [解約完了], it means that the au Email Portability service cancellation is now completed.

  • If you have registered your au ID contact email address, after the cancellation is completed, an email titled "【au Email Portability】 Cancellation Completion Notice" [【auメール持ち運び】解約完了のお知らせ] will be sent.

STEP 3: Restore Emails (Android Only)

I would like to restore emails sent and received via au Email Portability (for those who backed up using the Android au Email app)

If you have backed up your emails using the Android au Email app, please restore your emails.

Otherwise, please proceed to STEP 4.

STEP 4: Re-obtain the au email address you have been using from the email address change screen

From the email address change screen, reacquire the email address you had with au Email Portability

On the email address change screen, re-obtain the email address used when using au Email Portability.

Important notes

  • On the "Change Email Address" [メールアドレスの変更] screen, enter your email address according to the following input method.
    • If the email address you would like to re-obtain is the format XXXX@ezweb.ne.jp : Enter the email address XXXX@ezweb.ne.jp in the input field.
      • Please make sure to include the domain name (Enter everything including those after the @ mark). If there is no domain, an error will occur.
    • If the email address you want to re-obtain is XXXX@au.com: enter XXXX in the input field.
      • Please enter without including the domain (Enter the part to the left of the @ mark).

    How to Change Your Email Address

    Please check the following for how to change your email address.

    For your reference

    • If the "Change Address/Spam Settings" [アドレス変更/迷惑メール設定] button is not displayed in the side menu of the au Email app, it is necessary to delete the data within the app.
      • Past email data within the app will be deleted. If you need a backup, please perform the backup operation according to STEP 1 in advance.

      Open the "Settings" [設定] app → "Apps" [アプリ] → "au Mail" [auメール] → "Storage" [ストレージ ] → "Clear Data" [データを消去] → Return to the home screen and tap on the "au Mail" [auメールアプリ] app → Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the initial setup.

  • All of the indicated amounts exclude tax unless otherwise specified.
