Notice to customers

“Travel Data eSIM powered by GigSky” will be terminated on November 30th, 2020.

Please be noted the following information relating to this service termination.

  • Purchasing new data plan had terminated on July 31st, 2020.
    • The plans purchased by July 31st, 2020 can be used even after August 1st, 2020.
    • Please also be noted that any unused plans, regardless of whether or not data communication is available, will automatically be started 90 days after the purchase, and expired in 30 days or when you use up the plan volume.
  • Although this service terminates, GigSky provides similar service. If you need eSIM data service while you’re abroad, you can use “GigSky-eSIM travel data” App (iOS and Android).

Travel Data eSIM is an data service that is available to customers who are on extended stays in overseas. In the dedicated app, you can purchase a data plan that is valid for a period of 30 days, and use it for data communications when you arrive at your travel destination.

  • The valid period begins the moment you start using the data communications in the coverage area, and it lasts for a full 30 days, up to the same time of day that you started using it.

How to use

● Procedure while in Japan

Download the dedicated app (Travel Data eSIM) from the App Store.

〈Performing initial registration and purchasing the data plan〉

    Open the dedicated app, and tap the [Buy Now] button for the plan that you wish to purchase.

    Create a new account and specify the payment method.
    • You can use your au WALLET Credit Card or other credit card, or an au WALLET Prepaid Card.
    • Preparations are currently being made to support payment by Apple Pay.

    Check the summary of your order, and purchase the data plan.

    Follow the on-screen instructions to add the mobile communications plan.
    • Select "Primary"or the custom label that you assigned.
    • Select "Primary"or the custom label that you assigned.
    • Select "Secondary"or the custom label that you assigned.

    When the signal strength icon reappears (after 2 to 3 minutes), tap [Update] to display the top page.
    • Usage of the plan does not begin until you arrive in the destination country and change your iPhone's [Cellular Data] setting to the eSIM network (by selecting [Secondary] or the custom label that you assigned).

    Until you arrive in the destination country or region, keep your iPhone's [Cellular Data] setting on the au network (by selecting [Primary] or the custom label that you assigned).

●Procedure after returning to Japan

  • These settings must be performed in order to use data communications in Japan.

Travel Data eSIM (this service) is an overseas data communications service provided by GigSky Inc., which is based in the United States. The service becomes available to use once you register your user information (including the acceptance of the terms of use and privacy policy) and payment method (au WALLET Credit Card, Visa, Mastercard, or American Express credit card, or au WALLET Prepaid Card) in the service app. This service cannot be billed together with your communication charges, and au Simple Payment cannot be used.

When the valid period of the plan ends or the purchased data amount is exceeded, communications outside the app (Internet, etc.) are terminated until you purchase a new plan.

This service covers the usage of e-mail and Internet on au mobile phones (including tablets), as well as on other devices via tethering. Voice calls, Video Phone, SMS (C-mail), and international SMS are not covered.

This service may not be available due to the communications circumstances in the destination country or region, or due to the terrain or geographical conditions.

  • Consumption tax is excluded from the usage fees of each international service.
