Whether or not an au mobile phone is SIM-locked depends on when it was released.

For au mobile phones released after October 1st, 2021
The SIM is not locked.
The iPhone 13 series (iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini), iPad (9th generation) and iPad mini (6th generation) released on September 24th, 2021, are SIM-unlocked.
For au mobile phones released before October 1st, 2021
These devices are SIM-locked at the time of purchase.
If you wish to unlock the SIM, a separate procedure is required.
