【au PAY Prepaid card】What is the difference with au PAY?

au PAY (in Japanese only) is a payment service that allows payment by QR code/bar code by setting up the au PAY App on your smartphone.

To distinguish it from other services, it may be written as au PAY (code payment).  

The au PAY balance is the same for au PAY (code payment) and for au PAY Prepaid card (au WALLET Prepaid card). 

The stores where it can be used are not the same as those for the au PAY Prepaid card (au WALLET Prepaid card).

Design

  • au PAY Prepaid card: Orange card with the au PAY logo
  • au PAY Card (formerly au WALLET credit card) : Silver with the logos of au PAY card or au WALLET Credit *In the case of au PAY Gold Card, it is a golden color.

Method of Payment

  • au PAY Prepaid card: This is a prepaid system that allows you to spend only the amount has been charged (top up) in advance to your au PAY balance.

  • au PAY Card (formerly au WALLET Credit Card): Like a regular credit card, it is a postpaid method where payments are withdrawn from the registered bank account on the payment date.

Number of points

  • au PAY Prepaid card:1 point for every 200 yen (including tax) spent
  • au PAY Card (formerly au WALLET Credit Card): 1 point for every 100 yen (including tax) spent

For your reference

  • The Auto Charge setting is for au PAY balance, so it applies for both.

    au PAY Prepaid card (au WALLET Prepaid card) is for Mastercard affiliated stores (for online shopping it includes websites that support WebMoney)

    au PAY (code payment) is limited to stores with the logos of au PAY or Rakuten Pay (app payment/some stores)
